LA Fight Club / Marvel Vs. Capcom 3

On February 3rd, Capcom held an event for Marvel vs. Capcom 3 at the 740 Club in downtown Los Angeles. Hundreds of fans waited for hours in a dark and smelly alley just to get their hands on the game for a few minutes. Was it worth it? Hell yeah!

The event started at 8pm, but I showed up at around 4pm. There was already about 400-500 people in line at that time...so no free swag for me. :( Anyways, we waited for hours in this smelly alleyway. It reeked of shit and piss...it was obvious that the homeless had been living in the alley...mattresses were moved up against the wall so we could form a line out there. Oh and the walls had a bunch of 18th Street gang tagging. Great choice of location Capcom! :D Anyways, I met some cool people in line, and some people even brought their TVs and consoles so we could play some MVC2 in line. I managed to kick some ass at it even though I haven't played in a year or so.

Anyways, we managed to make it in the club when the doors opened up at 8. There were about 30 TVs set up with MVC3, and they already had huge lines(well they were more like zerg swarms) of people around them. I figured I'd wait a bit for the crowds to die down and went to go find some food.

The food also had a swarm of people around it...you just kind of had to shove your way to the front to get it. They had some weird meatball thing...chicken, and some strawberry pastry dessert. They also had something for vegetarians but I didn't catch a glimpse of what it was. Personally, I would have preferred pizza like they usually had at past events. But the food was alright, and it was free so I can't complain.

I finally got my hands on MVC3. I played about 2 matches before I got my ass kicked and had to give up my spot. I was a bit worried when I found out that the engine was being rebuilt, but the game runs great. The graphics are fantastic, they cater well to both MVC2 and TVC players. I'm definately going to be picking up this game day one.

There was also a surprise music performance by Random aka Mega Ran! I'm a huge megaman fan and I have listened to Megaran a few times so I was totally ecstatic when I saw him get up on the stage. I happened to be wearing my Megaman shirt at the event so I went ahead on got that autographed by him.

Overall I had a great night. I hope Capcom throws another party around here soon.

Man, that MVC series all win. DC vs Mortal Kombat tried to do something similar, but failed miserably.

MVC3 looks kickass. Definitely gonna have to cop it.

IMO, the only way to play Marvel vs. Capcom is at an arcade...too bad they're almost entirely extinct.
